In With the New, In With the Old

5 Easy Ways to Repurpose Content

As Bill Gates said back in 1996 “Content is King” and he was right. That truth still holds up.  One of the best things you can do for a website, blog or business, in general, is to continue to publish new, high-quality content that engages your audience. But coming up with new ideas to write about on a consistent basis can be difficult, and even if you can come up with ideas, who has the time to produce all of them?

This is where repurposing your content may be a great tool to use. There are tons of actionable ways that you can take your existing content and turn it into something new.

Now, I don’t mean you should just change a few links and keywords in a blog and call it new, but rather take your previously created content and turn it into something fresh. Once you have created something new with it, you can go out and share it with your audience (and you’ll know where to find them because you’ve already read this).

So here are 5 actionable steps you can take to repurpose your content:

1. Create a Slideshare:

Slideshare can be a great tool due to its ease of use. It’s especially useful for B2B content that you would like to turn into a more interactive format.  They also claim to have over 60 million unique visitors a month, so there’s a ton of great potential to gain exposure for your brand.

Slideshare could be a great opportunity to take a blog post, graphic or technical paper and turn it into an awesome presentation.

2. Create an Infographic:

According to the Social Science Research Center, 65% of people are visual learners.  That means the majority of your audience will understand more if they see your message rather than read it.  Infographics are also content that people love to share, so if you make some good ones you could gain a lot of great exposure and high-quality backlinks from it.

I know what you’re thinking “I don’t know how to create a graphic, and I don’t have all the money in the world to spend on a designer”.  If you’re in a pinch and need a good starting point, sites like Canva and  Picktochart may be a good place to look.

3. Create a Conversation:

Often times when a blog post is written, some really great questions come up in the comments section. This could be a great opportunity to use a site like Quora to get a conversation going with other professionals in your industry. It can also lead to a really easy way to construct a new blog post or piece of content in the future.

4. Create a Podcast/Vodcast:

If you have a lot of great content already written, that may mean you have a lot to talk about. Sitting down to review it for 15-20 minutes or even having a full discussion about that topic may be a great opportunity to use your existing content in a new way.

If you’re not sure where to start, check out a program like audacity.  It’s free open source software that’s pretty straightforward to use. All you need is a computer with a microphone to start playing with it.

5. Update Old Content:

Now I said at the beginning of this that you shouldn’t just change a few links and keywords and call it a day, and I mean that. If you have some older content that you have written I’m sure some of it is out of date. Not everything produced can be evergreen content. Take a look back at some of your older content that you’ve created and see what’s changed. What facts are different? How had the industry changed? Are the trends you talked about then still relevant now? This can be a great way to refresh and repurpose some of your old content.

So there you have it. 5 things you can do right now to create fresh new content. If you need help finding your audience to share it with, and didn’t have time to read the article I linked to at the top, you can check out this Slideshare.
